  SUMMER CAMP 2012

Horse camp is a wonderful place to have fun and make friends.

At Miller’s Equestrian Center and Sanctuary Summer Camp children learn not only riding and horsemanship, but respect and understanding for horses and people.  We have a variety of fun activities so learning and safety can be exciting and rewarding.

Weekend Camps

*trailering can range from $135 -$185 for Rancho Osos.

Payment:  To hold your spot you must send in payment for the full amount of your camp.  There is a non-refundable fee of $150.00 for cancellations.  Make checks to Michele Miller.  Spaces fill quickly.

We have several different types of camps:

DAY CAMP

This camp teaches horsemanship and riding in a fun and exciting way.    We accommodate all levels by dividing the lessons into two groups. All riders will have a riding lesson and stable management lesson each day of camp as well as other fun activities.  The last day of camp the riders put on a horse show for parents & friends.

 Example Activities include:

Riding lessons, tacking, grooming, trails, feeding, painting horses, hair wraps, cleaning tack, cleaning stalls, bathing, catching, lounging, braiding, clipping, blanketing, leg rapping, learning about conformation, vet practices, ferries, shows, fitting equipment, and much more.

The information taught will depend on the ability of each rider.  We will have a play day the last day where parents can come watch their children participate in different events.

When:  Mon. - Fri. from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (5 days a week)

Where: Hidden Springs

What to Bring:  Bring a Lunch.

 

THREE DAY DAY CAMP

Is the same as the Day Camp above but will not have a play day at the end and will run for 3 days.

When:  July 5-7, July 30 - Aug 1 , from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Where: Hidden Springs

What to Bring:  Bring a Lunch.

 

OVERNIGHT CAMP AT HIDDEN SPRINGS

This camp will have a riding lesson and a stable management lesson on Monday.  We will also have evening games on horseback, a pizza party, movie and ice cream social.  Then we will camp out in the arena at the ranch.  This includes breakfast and dinner.

When:  July 2-3 - 11:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. the next day.

Where: Hidden Springs

What to Bring:  Lunch, camping gear– sleeping bag, flash light and tent (may be shared).

 

3 & 4 DAY OVERNIGHT CAMP

Experience the outdoors with your horse & friends. Trail rides, games & horse care.  Riders will be in charge of their horse’s care (feeding, cleaning…).  At night we will have somemores and tell stories around the campfire.  Fees include accommodations, supervision, extra activities and meals.  Trailering not included.

The Advanced ride is for riders that are jumping 2’6 or higher courses and approved by Michele.  The Kids Rancho Osos camp is for all levels.  Riders must be able to tack their own horses to attend this camp.

We can bring green horses & riders but safety is priority.  Horses will be evaluated on each day and my not be able to be ridden.  

Montana de Oro = Tent camping, homemade food, very peaceful &

                   beautiful but primitive.

When: Aug 2-4, Arrive 1 pm, Leave 11:30 am

Where: Los Osos

What to Bring:  Info will be sent to those signed up.

Rancho Osos = Tents (adv.) & Covered Wagons (Kids), homemade food, arena,

                             pool & showers.

When: April 11-13

Where: Santa Barbara (HWY 154)

What to Bring:  Info will be sent to those signed up.

Trailering is not included.  To arrange trailering contact Michele.  If you have a trailer and would like to be on the list to haul contact Michele.  The price of trailering will vary.

 

TRAIL RIDES

This is a trail ride of your choice in the San Luis Area supervised by Michele Miller.  Each ride is limited to 4 riders.  Pick a day and a trail and sign up to reserve your spot.  School horses are available. The trails can include Morro Bay, Montana de Oro beach or Mountains, Pismo Beach, Cal Poly Mountains and many more.  This is for all horses and riders. I will try to group green riders and horses in the same groups.  If you have your own trailer and are willing to take one other horse contact Michele Downs.

ASSISTANT IN TRAINING

This program is for those who are interested in learning by teaching.  We train young riders to assist with instruction so that they can one day become assistant instructors.   We will teach you how to be affective and safe assistants.  Assistants will learn how to present them selves to students, how to choose horses for students, prepare tack for lessons, prepare horses for lessons, record keeping,  lesson plans, assist students in tacking and riding, follow directions, teach mock lessons and more.  Student will ride at least 3 times during the week. This program runs on the same dates and times as the Day Camps listed above.  This camp will have its own instructor and agenda.  We use the day camps to practice assisting riders as part of our program. In order to be in this program you must have been in more then 6 of our Day Camps and approved by Michele.  This program is limited to 5 assistants in training per camp.  Camps to be arranged.

 

WEEKEND CAMPS  2 days in a row, Ages 7-16.      

Includes: Each day includes:1 hr riding lesson, 1hr of games on horses, stable management and tacking lesson as well as other activities.    To bring:   lunch, long pants close toed shoes.

FOR ALL CAMPS

-SIGN UP EARLY

-Minimum sign up of 6 riders and maximum is 14 riders.

-to sign up call Michele, and then send a check for the full amount.

-You can bring your own horse or use one of ours.

-You may take more than one camp.
